Tree Nation: planting trees with your help
Tree Nation works as a platform that provides a technological solution to the problem of deforestation, which is responsible for about 17% of climate change emissions. What they do is to use technology to facilitate the reforestation of the planet. They offer support, advice and solutions to citizens and companies seeking a sustainable future. At the time of writing, they have already planted 10,368,160 trees, reforested 9,426 hectares and offset the emission of 1,422,626,051 kg of CO2. They have 95 reforestation projects underway and 6892 companies collaborate with them, one of them, The Blue Dolphin Store.
And how does it work that if I buy soft drinks I am planting a tree?
When you place an order of over 100 euros at The Blue Dolphin Store, you will receive a gratitude message informing you that Tree Nation will plant a tree on your behalf. You will then receive an email from Tree Nation explaining the botanical species that will be planted in your name, the exact location where it will be and the reforestation project it belongs to.
That tree will become part of The Blue Dolphin Store’s forest, but also of the personal forest of the customer who placed the order. These “virtual forests” are based on very real trees, with roots, leaves and chlorophyll. When you enter the digital forest you see in detail your trees, and those of your friends, or those of the collaborating company.
You can see each species, its peculiarities, and also things like the life expectancy of each planted tree and the annual CO2 offset. For example, a Holoptelea integrifolia planted in India as part of the Trees for Slender Loris project can live up to 75 years and produce an annual offset of 22 kg of CO2. The customer also receives a certificate of authenticity of their tree and the project it supports.
