At The Blue Dolphin Store we offer you all kinds of non-alcoholic wines and spirits. This way you can enjoy the fun and variety without harming your baby. In fact, according to several studies, non-alcoholic wine is actually good for your health: it contains all the tannins and nutrients and none of the alcohol. In addition, alcohol-free beverages tend to have less sugar, which is also good for mother and baby.

The harmful effects of alcohol on pregnant women are many, and that’s why most pregnant women stop drinking alcohol. And an increasing number of men are showing solidarity with their partners and following their example.

How alcohol affects pregnancy

When a pregnant woman drinks alcohol, it travels through the bloodstream to the baby’s blood, tissues and organs. Alcohol breaks down much more slowly in the baby’s body than in an adult. Therefore, this means that the level of alcohol in the baby’s blood remains higher for longer than in the mother.

The Ministry of Health reports that there is no “safe” amount of alcohol consumption during pregnancy.  Hence, the only safe alcohol consumption during pregnancy is zero consumption. Not drinking alcoholic beverages during pregnancy is the only guarantee against increasing the risk that every mother and her baby will develop alcohol-related effects.

Alcohol consumption appears to be most harmful during the first 3 months of pregnancy; however, drinking alcohol at any time during pregnancy can be harmful.

For any doubts in case of pregnancy, in Spain there is a Telephone Information Service for Pregnant Women (Tlf: 91 822 24 36) where you can ask questions about various risk factors for prenatal development, including alcohol consumption.

Alcohol-free drinks and pregnancy: beware of 0.0 beer

Alcohol-free beer almost always has an alcohol content due to the way it is brewed. Spanish law considers alcohol-free beers to be those with an alcohol content of less than 1 per 100 by volume. The beers you find at The Blue Dolphin Store usually have between 0.5 and 0.5 alcohol, but not all of them. If you’re a beer fan, try our Peroni 0,0: it’s actually 0.0, with no alcohol at all.

We also recommend alcohol-free wines, which are almost always 0.0 and low in calories. If you want to experience new flavours and sensations, try our non-alcoholic cocktails. A treat for you that won’t do your baby any harm. When in doubt, check the information on each product.
