A study conducted in December 2022 by Kuoni reveals the favourite destinations for teetotal travellers and their most popular activities. Holidays can be a fantastic way to indulge, whether it’s enjoying the local cuisine, shopping or sampling the alcoholic beverages on offer. However, as more and more people are taking part in Dry January and adopting a teetotal lifestyle, many travellers are also choosing to enjoy an alcohol-free holiday. With The Blue Dolphin’s non-alcoholic drinks you can enjoy a fantastic holiday without alcohol.
Favourite destinations for teetotal travellers
The majority of teetotalers surveyed chose the United States as their favourite destination for an alcohol-free holiday. With 50 states to explore, the vast country has something for everyone. Whether you’re looking for a weekend full of fun, shopping, sightseeing and entertainment in cities like New York or Chicago. Or a week spent in the great outdoors, reconnecting with nature and enjoying the breathtaking scenery of Yosemite or the Grand Canyon.
Turkey and Italy are the second and third most popular destinations. In second place is Turkey, home to stunning beaches with crystal blue waters. It is the perfect destination for those looking for a place to unwind and soak up the sun while cooling off with a dip in the pool or the sea.
Italy completes the top three, with stunning road trips along the Amalfi Coast or a long weekend exploring the winding, beautifully paved streets of Florence.
Fourth place goes to Spain, which offers a variety of landscapes and experiences. From hiking trails to water sports, as well as cultural and gastronomic offerings capable of enchanting a wide and diverse group of travellers. Next in the ranking are: Australia, Canada, United Arab Emirates, Greece, Egypt and Japan.
Alcohol-free travel and age
The study also revealed that the pressure to drink on holiday decreases as we get older, with more than a third of younger travellers (36%) aged 16-24 feeling the most pressure, while only 14% of travellers aged 55+ feel some pressure.
Younger travellers tend to associate holidays with partying and posting pictures on social media, as they share their nights out or their nights enjoying a cocktail at a local bar while travelling, although this trend is decreasing. More and more young people are choosing a healthy lifestyle and opting for alcohol-free drinks: alcohol-free cocktails, non-alcoholic beers, non-alcoholic wines. Older people, on the other hand, are more likely to enjoy a family holiday or a quiet romantic holiday with their partner, where there may be less pressure to drink.
The best alcohol free holiday activities
In terms of the most popular holiday activities, teetotal travellers put sightseeing at the top of their list, followed by day trips and shopping. Visiting other countries offers travellers a great opportunity to immerse themselves in local history and culture, and sightseeing is a perfect way to absorb it. Spending the day shopping is also high on the list, especially in the 16-24 age group, as holidaymakers are keen to find the perfect souvenir to take home.
