Alcohol and euphoric verbosity can cause hangxiety. We’ve all been there. We’ve been out with friends, had a few too many drinks and then let out confidences, or jokes, that we should have kept to ourselves. They’re no big deal, but maybe it wasn’t the right audience or time for confessions or black humour. The next day we wake up with a dry mouth and a feeling of shame and guilt that weighs heavily on us. And the worst thing is that it’s no big deal… We haven’t killed anyone, nor have we made fools of ourselves, but perhaps we have shown a side that, for reasons of discretion or whatever, we prefer not to show. In this article we tell you what hangxiety is.

What is hangxiety?

According to an article in El diario.es, this anxiety about the next day is a psychiatric phenomenon known as hangxiety. This is a term that comes from the union of “hangover”  and “anxiety”. It is nothing but an emotional hangover accompanied by symptoms of anxiety that occurs the day after having consumed large quantities of alcohol, in which we are gripped by the terror of having spoken too much, combined with a terrible feeling of guilt. It is a mood disorder that affects much of society to a greater or lesser extent. Alcohol is a nervous system depressant, which is why it causes anxiety after having produced disinhibition, euphoria and drowsiness. It makes us forget any restraint, become overconfident, let our guard down and then, the next day, it comes the distressing hangover, the hangxiety.

That doesn’t happen with non-alcoholic drinks like the ones we offer at The Blue Dolphin Store. You can extend the evening as long as you like, you won’t feel guilty about anything the next day, and you won’t have a headache or a mushy mouth. You can count on 0 anxiety, or 0 hangxiety, the day after.

We spoke to Bernardo Ruiz Victoria, a psychologist specialising in Clinical Psychology and director of the Victoria Programme, a therapeutic retreat for overcoming addictions.

In his opinion, alcohol-free drinks are, for everyone, a healthy alternative to traditional drinks. Bernardo Ruiz believes that it is positive to encourage the consumption of alcohol-free drinks, but also that “the prestige and good image of alcohol-free drinks must be earned by the manufacturers by producing quality products that are attractive to the public”. Some, such as Tanqueray or Natureo, have already won the respect of customers, while others are gradually entering the collective conscience of the consumer society. The Blue Dolphin Store gives you the opportunity to enjoy the best alcohol-free drinks, be it non-alcoholic wine to accompany meat dishes, alcohol-free sparkling wines to toast to good things, alcohol-free spirits for the best cocktails or non-alcoholic beers and alcohol-free vermouths for those aperitifs with friends.

And most importantly, alcohol-free drinks never produce hangxiety.

What if there is an alcohol addiction problem?

We asked Dr Ruiz Victoria if there are any cases where drinking non-alcoholic beverages is not advisable. “People who have had a history of alcohol abuse, or who have developed addiction, may have difficulty consuming the alcohol-free version of the drinks they used to drink. This is a sensitive issue that needs to be worked through in therapy with each individual patient. But in any case, it is a good option to have alcohol-free drinks available”.

So now you know, don’t let one night’s fun ruin your peace of mind for the next day, or even the rest of the week. Consume quality non-alcoholic beverages, they have all the advantages and none of the disadvantages of alcohol-containing drinks.
