Alcohol-free wine is becoming more and more popular. At The Blue Dolphin Store we have expanded our catalogue with two new names: Aldea 0.0 and Somée. New alcohol-free wines made by traditional wineries that started out making wine with alcohol. Without leaving aside their classic production, the two wineries have invested in developing alcohol-free wines –more in line with real demand– but without losing the quality of their classic wines.

The result is spectacular, as soon as we tasted them we decided to include them in our catalogue of alcohol-free wines.
Some people see alcohol-free wine as a translation, as a transfer from “with alcohol” to “without alcohol”. However, this is not the case; the process of de-alcoholisation begins in the vineyard. Grapes with specific characteristics must be chosen so as not to lose the aroma.

The process to eliminate alcohol is carried out by means of various techniques such as reverse osmosis, freeze-drying or by means of the CCR technology or inverted rotating cone system. The latter is the most commonly used and consists of separating  the wine into three parts: the aromas, the alcohol and the rest of the wine. Once this is achieved, the alcoholic part is discarded and the other parts are blended again.
This process only makes sense with quality wines, if the wine is mediocre, the result is dreadful.

A universal Galician

Aldea 0.0 belongs to the Lerense winery Producto de Aldea, owned by winemaker Manuel Gil, who has been producing, selling and exporting Spanish wines for almost 20 years. Five years ago, given the demand for low alcohol or alcohol-free drinks, he decided to dedicate part of the harvest to the production of de-alcoholised wines, under the name of Aldea 0.0.

Gil understands the concept of “inclusive wine”, that pregnant and breastfeeding women should not be deprived of a good wine, and they respect people from other cultures who are forbidden to drink alcoholic beverages or are teetotalers, or anyone who simply has to take the car or work after a good meal.

Aldea 0,0 produces all varieties of alcohol-free wine; white, red and rosé. It also has two non-alcoholic sparkling wines, white and rosé.
Manuel Gil told El Cosumidor Global: “In Galicia, during the 80s, 96 litres of wine were consumed per person per year. Now it is around 26”. Times have changed and the population wants to enjoy life to the maximum. Many people alternate alcoholic drinks with 0.0, depending on their mood or situation.

The wine that came in from the cold

Adam Trautwein is a third-generation family business in the Rheinhessen wine-growing region. Adam Trautwein, the grandfather of the current owner, founded the winery in 1920. Wolfgang Trautwein took over the company after the death of his father Wilhelm in 1989. The young entrepreneur systematically expanded and modernised the company.

He invested in an innovative grape reception and modern presses, the latest cellar technology, his own water treatment plant and modern warehouses. He and his 40 employees are constantly striving to innovate and improve quality, and one of his achievements is the Somée brand, original and delicious alcohol-free wines.

Try the red Somée Cabernet Sauvignon, the Sauvignon Blanc, the Chardonnay, exquisite. However, don’t miss their speciality: the Riesling, fresh and fruity, the Merlot rosé, with a perfect sweet-acid balance and one of our favourites: Spicy Sparkler, exotic, slightly spicy, with hints of nutmeg, a delight and a real experience for body and mind. New alcohol-free wines chosen to make your life happier.
