What to Drink when You’re Not Drinking?
Vogue magazine has published an article by Elise Taylor entitled “What to Drink If You’re Not Drinking: The Best Non-Alcoholic Spirits for a Sober Happy Hour.” in which she tells us about the personal experience that has led to reduce her alcohol consumption, which began during her quarantine.
Elise says that “Since quarantine started, I haven’t been drinking much. There was no last straw, no specific motive—more a lack of occasions during which I’d typically have a drink. (…) So Manhattans and glasses of Malbec, once a staple on any given night in the city, became unnecessary.”
This led her to a physically perceptible change. “A month in, I noticed a change. My energy levels went up. (…) I was running faster, sleeping better, writing clearer.” and when normality returned her “desire to drink didn’t.”

So “I had officially joined the ranks of the sober-curious: those who are examining their relationship with alcohol, and wondering what their existence would be like with, well, less of it.” and acknowledges that “this trend of more mindful drinking has been growing for a while. Take the societal prevalence of Dry January—one in five American drinkers participated in it last year. And that’s just one month: in 2019, a report found that 52 percent of adults wanted to reduce their alcohol intake. As a result, IWSR, an alcohol-industry tracker, estimates low and non-alcoholic drinks will grow 32.1 percent between 2018 and 2022.”
Elise,”with this newfound wellness focus” wonders: what to drink when you don’t want to drink?
“Personally, I realized that what I miss about drinking isn’t the drink itself: It’s the culture that surrounds it. A diet coke is, yes, delicious, but it felt infantile at a dinner party. (…) Then there was that one time I ordered a water. “Wait. . . you’re not pregnant, are you?” a well-meaning friend whispered. I was secure in my choice not to drink, but I was insecure when what was in my hand didn’t fit the vibe of the social setting I was in.
then, she invites us to enter the world of “non-alcoholic beer, wine, or spirit. They look like alcohol, and often taste like alcohol, but aren’t alcoholic. They can be enjoyed on their own, in a mixed drink, or classic cocktail. Many are culinarily acclaimed and cool (…) Seedlip is served at the world’s best bar, Dante. Their ingredients are intriguing, with botanicals like blackcurrant, hibiscus, bitter orange.”

Truthfully, I don’t know how long my teetotaling will last. But I do know that whenever I want to go off the sauce, I won’t be concerned by the stigma—real or imagined—that surrounds it. Instead, I’ll just be idly sipping my Kin Euphorics spritz.”
She ends up providing a list of 12 non-alcoholic beverages that you can buy online, among which stand out Seedlip Garden 108, Seedlip Spice 98 and Lyre’s American Malt that you can find on our website, The Blue Dolphin Store.
