La Trappe is a Dutch beer brewed by the Trappist Abbey of Koningshoeven in the Netherlands, founded in 1884. It was the only Trappist abbey brewing beer outside of Belgium until the recent opening of Zundert Trappist, also in the Netherlands. The abbey remains home to the Trappist monks who brew the beer, following the centuries-old tradition that is an integral part of their monastic life. During its early years, the brewery primarily produced beer for the abbey’s internal consumption, but over time, it began selling locally. In the 1920s, the monks started producing Trappist beers and quickly gained a strong reputation for their quality.
