On May 7, 2025, The Blue Dolphin Store hosted the first non-alcoholic wine tasting in Barcelona at the iconic Celler de Gelida. The hosts were industry experts: Meritxell Falgueras, sommelier; Andrea Mellado, director of The Blue Dolphin Store; and David Seijas, former sommelier at elBulli and creator of Neverwine.
It was a fantastic afternoon where, apart from tasting four dealcoholized wines, we shared our anecdotes and experiences. All the alcohol-free wines are available at the Blue Dolphin non-alcoholic drinks shop.
Tasting of 4 incredible alcohol-free wines
We began tasting non-alcoholic wines with Neverwine, made with the Albariño grape. We were fortunate to have the creator, David Seijas, who told us how the idea came about and the creative process. Neverwine is the first 0% alcohol wine from Gallina de Punk, a groundbreaking project that aims to push boundaries. It’s inspired by a punk movement called Straight Edge, which consisted of abstaining from alcohol, tobacco, and drugs. As David says, “the most punk thing to do when you go out partying is not to drink alcohol.” The bottle design, “Neverwine, Smells like Albariño,” is inspired by Nirvana’s album Nevermind.
We then tasted the non-alcoholic rosé wine Oddbird Domaine de la Prade, made with Garnacha grapes in the French region of Langedoc. It has a pale pink color, is dry, and very refreshing. Oddbird’s alcohol-free wines undergo 12 months of aging to achieve complex flavors and aromas without artificial colors or flavors.
Meritxell Falgueras, an expert in alcohol-free pairings who wrote the book “What to Drink When You Don’t Drink” in 2017, presented Natureo Red. This brand, created by Bodegas Torres, is a pioneer, having launched its first alcohol-free wine in 2008. Its non-alcoholic red wine is full-bodied and has a lingering aroma and flavors of red fruits.
Finally, we tried the alcohol-free sparkling wine Nooh Blanc. Created by the famous Chateau de Cote winery in Provence, France, this is a premium alcohol-free champagne perfect for celebrating and toasting. Very fresh and with notes of white fruit, it’s hard to believe it’s alcohol-free.

The non-alcoholic wines trend
During the taste, we shared our experience in the alcohol-free wine sector. Both David and Meritxell agree that the wine industry is very rigid and traditional, and change is difficult. Although many people disagree, both continue to advocate for alcohol-free wines.
There are many reasons why non-alcoholic wines are a good option. Not only because you avoid the negative effects of alcohol, but because they are inclusive beverages. They allow people who don’t drink alcohol to pair dishes, toast, and enjoy the flavors of wine.
