Thanks to American movies and TV shows, we know what Thanksgiving is all about: a family gathering that is as important, or even more so, than Christmas Day for Americans. But do you know exactly what we’re thankful for? In this article, we’ll tell you everything.

Like any celebration, it’s sometimes difficult to find alternatives to alcohol. To solve this, our non-alcoholic drinks shop offers all the options you need to enjoy an alcohol-free Thanksgiving.

Non-alcoholic drinks for Thanksgiving

If you want to celebrate Thanksgiving without alcohol, we recommend starting with non-alcoholic wines. Both non-alcoholic white and red wines pair very well with turkey.

For appetizers before the turkey, you can enjoy non-alcoholic craft beers, which are very trendy. And if you want to be original, try alcohol-free vermouths. A good 0,0% alcohol spritz is the perfect companion for aperitif time. Finally, you can toast with non-alcoholic sparkling wine and enjoy a delicious cocktail with our alcohol-free spirits. As you can see, you don’t have to sacrifice variety or flavor when you don’t want to drink alcohol.

Thanksgiving History

Thanksgiving was originally a day to express gratitude for the harvest and for the previous year. It is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November in the United States, and on the second Monday of October in Canada.

In the United States, the modern tradition of Thanksgiving has its origins in 1623 in a celebration in Plymouth, in the present-day state of Massachusetts. The feast was held to thank God for a good harvest. Since the Plymouth Colony initially did not have enough food to feed the 102 settlers, the native Wampanoag tribe lent a hand. They helped the Pilgrims by giving them seeds and teaching them how to fish. However, the practice of holding such a harvest feast did not become a tradition in New England until the late 1660s.

The traditional turkey

The traditional main course for dinner is a large roast or baked turkey, accompanied by a stuffing made of cornbread and sage. It is traditionally served with cranberry jelly, garnished with green beans, sweet potato, and mashed potatoes with gravy made from the juice of the roasting turkey. Various desserts are also served, with pumpkin pie being the most popular.

What do you drink at Thanksgiving?

This is traditionally a non-alcoholic celebration. Thanksgiving punch is a drink based on apple cider, mineral orange juice, and grape juice, accompanied by fresh orange slices and cranberries. A great alcohol-free option is to use non-alcoholic cider to make the punch.
